Thanks for an eye-opening review. There has been a limited scholarship on the Wired/Whole Earth/WELL/libertarian gang, but Turner’s book is by far the best-researched and complete view of this phenomenon. Barbara Warnick called this utopian bunch “New Libertarians” in her 2002 book “Critical Literacy…”but the label didn’t seem to stick. I wonder if Fred Turner’s label New Communalism will be any longer-lived or useful in the long-term.
